Van Pre Trip

I always did my pre trip inspection AFTER a delivery, as soon as I returned to the Wally World parking lot/truck stop/campground. Got fuel, checked lights, wipers, etc. Then I did whatever. Sleep, etc. If and when a load offer came I was ready to roll. If you log, can you do it that way, or must you do a pre trip BEFORE an actual trip? Just curious. Thanks.

pre- a prefix occurring originally in loanwords from Latin, where it meant “before”

post- a prefix, meaning “after,” “later,” “subsequent to,”

If you have to log you have to log a pre trip inspection and a post trip inspection. The pre trip must include 15 minutes on line 4 prior to moving to line 3. You must do this immediately prior to line 3 driving or else it's not pre trip. After delivery is post trip.

The way I was taught at Schneider Driving Academy the pre-trip was a more extensive inspection than the post-trip. In Panthers orientation it sounded like they reversed it saying they wanted the extensive inspection at the end of the day. Couldn't figure it out but didn't press the issue since I'm not logging. I just do it my way now.

To be technical though...you could still say it is a "pre" - trip inspection, since it was performed b4 picking up your next load but after the previous one....just a thought.

I always thought the pretrip only counted as a pretrip if it was performed in the 15 minutes before you start driving. I always did mine while pumping fuel. Some may say you can't do it like, but I never got in trouble for it. I just logged them both at the same time. It usually takes 15 minutes to fill up the tanks especially if someone is in line ahead of you.

Pre trip = roads are safer, you don't leave with problems.

Post trip = find problems when it's convenient ie not under load!

Guess which one saves you money?
