Van Conversion

Can anyone direct me to a company that does van conversions? I will purchasing a GMC 3500 extended van and wanted to have the roof raised, plus a frig, microwave and tv installed. No one in my area builds "expedite" vans. I saw a ford cargo van on one website but the idea of the bed installed 1 inch from the driver's seat isn't enough room. (Not hardly) I appreciate the advice.

Roadrunner,

I read just recently an article here on EO about expediting cargo vans and the companies that do the conversions.

It was a pretty good article.

I am sure one of the EO moderaters could tell you exactly the date it was on and were to get it.

Hope that helps!

If you install a bed more than a inch back you will never get two skids in.I like it if you could fold or raise the bed up to get more cargo space. My nexy van will be an eye popper I got some good ideas and I will do the work myself. Those companies do good work but I think I can do better. Hawk

I recently had some work done on my 2003 Chevy 3500 extended van. Unique Van Crafters on Groesbeck in Roseville, MI (586)778-4444 had the van spray foam insulated and paneled the sides and roof, as well as 1/2" plywood on floor. I also added a power vent for better air circulation. They also can install a raised roof. Depending on the roof selection, that would be a bit less than $2,000.

As far as installing a bed, I have seen beds suspended from the roof on chains and S hooks. That way, you can move the bed depending on the cargo. With the chain, you can adjust the bed when not parked on level ground. You could probably set it up so that if you are a team, the bed would not swing very much while the van is moving. It would be hard to "safety belt" the sleeper the way you can in larger trucks.
