Trucker Buddy Program - Good for drivers and kids!

I recently took the advice of good ole' Leo and signed up and joined in the Trucker Buddy program. I believe it to be a worthy program for all of us to participate in and connect with younger school aged kids.

Here is the bases of the program (direct from the website):

Trucker Buddy International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping educate and mentor schoolchildren via a pen pal relationship between professional truck drivers and children in grades 2-8.

Trucker Buddy matches classes of students with professional truck drivers. Every week drivers share news about their travels with their class. Once a month, students write letters to their drivers. Students' skills in reading, writing, geography, mathematics, social studies, and history are enhanced and learning is fun.

Trucker Buddy can be a very rewarding experience for both you and the children. We have been with Trucker Buddy since it's inception.For many years we have corresponded with a class in Moundville Alabama. We have stopped there twice,got a great reception from the school plus the town.

Every year at Christmas we would send each child a Christmas Card through the teacher. There was a 11 year old girl who wrote back to us that this Christmas Card was the first card of any type that she had ever received in her life. So maybe in a small way we made a difference in a her life. We mailed post cards on a weekly basis plus when ever we were tourists for a while we would mail them information on the National Park or whatever we were doing.

Being from Moundville they had never really seen much snow,so one time when we stopped in Montana in January we took 36 photos of different snow vistas and they loved it.

We also received letters in from some of their Parents thanking us for our time. So go ahead and sign up,it is nothing but a positive experience for you and them.
