Since I just noticed that two of the most recent posts were about accidents, I thought a word was in order. There are certainly precautions one can take in truck stops, but I am more concerned about the severe accidents that happen every day in an increasingly dangerous environment. At least two of us have been hit this year, and my vehicle is still not finished...
As it turns out, the double-channel frame on my Pete was bent about 4 inches to one side, from eight feet of overhang, to ahead of the rear axle. A different frame shop has now been given the work, as the first was incapable of fixing it. I sounds as though the rear axle must be removed to straighten the frame. I have gone back to the insurance company for additional money, which they seem to have agreed to. I could easily see this coming to an extra $1000. None of the frame damage could be seen by the naked eye while the box was on.
Extensive repairs to the box totalling over $7000 were completed today. Sunday will be two months since the rear-ender took place!
I also sought an additional $3700 for additional expenses which the LTL company said they will cover, through subrogation (as moderators have talked about).
To top it off, my doctor told me yesterday, that the back pain/discomfort I have may persist for up to six months: micro tears in ligaments and muscle. Until then, not sure if I am going to court or not to sue for injury and damages.
I have definite ideas why all this seems to be getting worse, but nagging about 4 wheelers will not resolve it. Since my accident, while driving an owner's truck, I just drove a bit closer to the speed limit, and watched the traffic behind me more. When necessary, I will move so far away from dangerous t/t drivers that they are no threat to me. Trust me, you get hit by a big truck, and you lose money, if not your life...
Seems we are best suited to try to at least set some example out here- and since we have CB's, I don't know why so many of you are silent all the time. I have discussions and even arguments with other drivers about all sorts of things, and chastise those who act like fools. You say it doesn't help? I say people change things...
