2 identical trucks T300KW they have basically the same mileage. One has a Allison 6sp. automatic and the other has a super10 tranny. The truck with the automatic is $6000.00 more. Is it worth the extra money for the automatic? Keep in mind I have drove trucks with 8LL to 18speeds. Although I have not drove one with a super10 or an automatic. Just looking for peoples opinions. P.S. both trucks have about 400,000mi.

Dan I never owned Automatics not even in my personal cars/trucks might be because I don’t have the equipment to repair them myself. But when I got my new truck it had a auto and was ready to roll and after a few long days in traffic in Detroit and Chicago I decided to give one a try plus the resale value and am not sorry I did course I get 3 mpg or better depending on my foot better than my international with a 9sp and don’t get tired out sitting in stop and go traffic which is not a big part of our business but when it does happen your happy you got one. About the 6k difference not sure although my point in resale value! I’d rather have a 9sp over a super 10 but that’s just me a friend of mine hated my 9sp but loved the super 10 he drove for a while since.

Good luck

We have Allison heavy duty 6 speed automattic transmission and would never go back to the manual again. We have had zippo problems with it. (we have almost 900,000 miles on our truck)

We did have the transmission fluid replaced when vehicle was new with the synthetic fluid, which was quite costly but you don't need to change nearly as often.

We were told to expect, and have experienced, less fuel milage with the automatic transmission 1-2 miles per gallon less... In addtion the automatic transmission is also quite a bit heavier.
