transmission

I hope this question doesn't sound to stupid. So here it goes. I see trucks that are for sale advertise the tranny as a 7speed and some say 6+1. I know 6+1 equals 7, at least in old school math it did. But are these the same tranny. I was told on several occasions that the 7 speed is not a very good trans. But the 6 speed is.
Thanks

The seven speed manual most refer to as being troublesome are the Spicers. The six speeds are usually a Eaton if a manual. Based on posts over the years, I would have to say the Eaton is more reliable.
Again, nothing scientific but reading others experiences.

The 6 plus 1 is a Spicer transmission. It contains some "unusual" engineering, and based on my own hands on experience, is quite unreliable over the long haul. The 6 speed version is a fairly decent unit, but IMNSHO, look for an Eaton/Fuller transmission if you want a stout medium duty truck transmission.
