Canada Traffic Rules - Advanced Green

Have you ever stopped at a stop light in Ontario. It turns green but it is flashing?
That is the Advanced Green; it tells motorists that it is safe to turn left. The oppposing traffic is still seeing a red light.
All traffic that sees the flashing advanced green light may proceed through the intersection; even if proceeding straight.

I understand that flashing advanced green lights are no longer standard procedure and are being replaced by green arrows that indicate left turns. The flashing greens are still found in many locations.

Rob,

Interesting that you bring this up. I made my first trip to Canada, with a load to Montreal, earlier this week, and was sitting at an intersection waiting to make a left turn. I was quite surprised when the green arrow started flashing! As I was at the head of the line, I figured I had better get rolling as there were about half a dozen vehicles behind me. Everyone followed me through, so I assumed it was a legit move. It's nice to know the real deal!
