Please tell me why I see so many straight trks and so few tractors.Looks like this would make the demand for tractors higher???

Demand for tractors is certainly high with all carriers. With regards to expediting, qualifications, operating costs, and convenience of other vehicles make them a tough bill to fill.
Additionally, straights and vans have a somewhat limited selections of companies in which to choose. Tractor trailers have many more opportunities available to them.

I believe you see the ratio you see because that reflects the ratio of amount of freight to be expedited. What I mean is there are many more instances of an emergency amount of freight being no more than what fits in a D unit than there are of it being an entire 53 footer. It is more expensive to hire the unit as size increases so the customer only wants the smallest unit that will satisfy the need. That's most often a B, C, or D unit. My .02, YMMV.
