Tractor trailer crashes into Amtrak train

If it turns out he was texting or something like that...I can't think of words to describe what's going to come next.

Some Obama admin dumb@$$, forget which one, proposed making all vehicle interiors impervious to cell phone signals when the car is in drive. I can imagine that coming back.

Short of running off the road to prevent him from hitting the train, at 60mph at 88ft per second, he was out of time to stop that rig. In 4 seconds or less , he was at the impact site.

Facts are simple, truck ran into train.. gates were down and he went thru them. both other trucks stopped. Truck or driver at fault, slam dunk case. Train always has right of way

I am not disputing the fact the truck hit the train but the facts should be analysed first to see why it happened. Was the driver having a medical emergency or was he in the sleeper trying to grab a fork to eat dinner? If he had some sort of medical issue like a brain hemorrhage that was not predictable you can't say it was negligence.

He left 300 feet of skid marks before he hit train..Medical goes out the door there. What we might find out later he was eating but that will be hard to find out because of the fire

I know he locked up the brakes but that doesn't mean you can just eliminate all medical issues. I think it is possible he was distracted but there are still other possibilities out there including a possible issue with the gates, maybe they do work but do not leave enough time for a loaded truck to stop. I just like to see the information first then look at whether or not it was total negligence on the driver or if there is a shared blame.

One the gates were down, two both other trucks with him stopped, the train tried to slow down seeing what was coming. He went into the side of the train. The train didn't hit him he hit the train.

I agree there is more to follow on what caused the crash and that will be a year from now when the FHWA comes down with there findings
