To Lease or not to...

I have read a number of your posts and it seems almost all of you lease your vehicles, is this so? I have never heard anything good about leasing; lately there have been a lot of TV documentaries depicting their scams not to mention all the web sites.

What am I missing? If leasing is so bad why are so many businesses doing it?

I wish I knew more about it! I buy, sell, and broker cargo vans and other fleet vehicles. Many medium size businesses do not turn in their vehicles to the leasor but buy the vehicle and then sell it to me. I must be giving them more for it than the leasor or they would not be repeat customers. I sure wish I could get my hands on the lease papers so I could do the math and compare them to the alteratives.

I do not like to see small business owners being ripped off; all of my siblings (4) own their own business so naturally I am very empathetic.

Thanks

I'll set you straight- Few of us lease our actual trucks, we indeed own them. They are "leased" to a specific company (Landstar, Con-Way, etc) for that company's exclusive use. We the truck owners become independent contractors for these companies. They give us the freight to run. We hope. :9
