Been lurking and researching for quite awhile now. Here's the plan:
My son has class A CDL w/Hazmat and OTR TT experience but no money.
I have some money but no experience. Hmmmm. Wonder if there is a lesson there? Anyway he/we think we would like to get into expediting. He is single, no strong ties to anyplace and home time isn't a big issue with him. He would be willing to relocate to somewhere in expeditor country - he's thinking maybe Lousiville but open on that. He will try to hook up and drive for an owner for 9-12 months to learn the biz. If that goes well, we would look to buy our own truck with me putting up the money and him doing the driving. At that point I wouldn't be expecting to get rich. Just cover expenses and maintaining a good maintenance fund and putting some away for truck replacement eventually. I could even maybe benefit from some loss for taxes. I think that way he could be paid a little better than average. (And yes we will have a DETAILED written contract between us).
Now my question: Will any company OK older drivers? I will be 66 by the time this all happens. In good health. On no medication and have a clean driving record. I have no desire to spend much time driving but would like to get my CDL and be able to take a load or two in emergencies or to keep the truck rolling when he wants time off. I'd appreciate any answers or words of wisdom from some of you who know the business. Thanks.
