The click of death.... Jumper cables to the rescue..

Seasoned Expediter
make a service call trip (I am a part time expediter) with the van. Free parking is in a ramp. No worries 8 ft clearance. I'll fit. Park and run in and complete service call.

Get out to van.. "click"...

Rutro. No starter in my stash of rutro parts.

I do however have my trusty set of jumper cables.. If the solenoid is bad, I can bypass it with the cables..

Get under the van, thankfully the solenoid is accessiable and connect to the terminal going to the starter. Hit the other end of the cable to the battery and the starter spins but won't engage the fly wheel..

I ask a nice passer by lady who I am sure thought I was nuts to just reach in and hold the key to start. Nothing will happen right away but once I connect the cable to the battery it'll start (I hope)

So she humors me and turns the key till I hear the "click" I was waiting for. The drive gear is now on the fly wheel. Hit the cable to the battery and boom! It's running (nope. didn't blow up)

Now my helper is impressed :)

And I am not turning this thing off till I get home.
