I am an independant recruiter, and provide information to many of the large expediters. If you want the honest truth, then Tractor Trailers are the best way to go. Especially if the company you chose will also load you with Truck Load Freight as well as Expedited, which most of the companies do.
I have been in the business as an Owner Operator, Dispatcher and Recruiter, and regardless of what you might hear, T/T's, at the moment, are the more versital vehicles. That doesn't mean that they are the most comfortable.
As a team in a straight truck, you have an advantage of comfort, larger sleepers, better fuel economy, but you are limited to expedited freight of 13,000 lbs or less.
If you approach this career change with the idea that this is a small business, then you will be fine with either size vehicle. If you want you can send me a Private e-mail and we can go into the finer details.
