Do regular automotive ones stand up in trucks (T300 if it matters) or do you need the OEM type ones?

When I worked at a chrome shop we would have people coming in with aftermarket stereos and even subwoofers. I never heard any complaints about the stereo or stereo systems.

We upgraded to a 200w sony with a usb port and SD slot to play music str8. Then we put 50w 5 1/2's in the door and 100w 6X9's in the sleeper.. It has held up really good!!!

OK, good news as the OEM type ones ain't got much in the way of features. The do tout themselves as being "heavy duty" which may well be true but for the $200ish they want I'm guessing you can get more for your money from normal manufacturers. Not looking for anything really fancy nor really loud, just something half way decent that plays clean. Current one still has an ancient tape deck - I at least want to play some (soon to be ancient) CD and maybe an MP3 plug in front - although I don't have one of those either.

Stick in what you like that has features you want. All auto stereos are built to take some pounding of the bouncing along the road. I like the mute buttom on my oem unit but have had trouble finding an aftermarket that has a similar position mute. Shop for deals.

Other than the display going funky for a couple minutes after starting the truck, my Kenwood works great. Has a mute button that is prominently placed also. I also found it much easier to program than the Sony models; and that's with more buttons on the Kenwood.
