As you are probably aware, many of the owner/operators have found themselves in a bit of a mess now that states are going after owed sales tax that they feel the state of Oklahoma has taken from them.

According to OOIDA, their phone has been ringing off the hook with questions from o/o about what they should do. OOIDA's recommendation is the following: (Landline, March/April 2003).

"We (OOIDA) are very aware this is a huge financial problem, but it is important that you all realize these are state issues. Our suggestion at this time is that you contact your State Representatives and State Senators as soon as possible. You need new legislation in your state to protect you in this situation. We sugest you ask aobout a release of the sales tax or a possible maximum set for the tax that can be charged.

It is important that you point out to our elected officials that the owner operators of the state are Small Business Men and Women and should not be put out of business due to a spat between states. Also remind them you were legally registered in the State of Oklahoma and should not be penalized."

Drive Safe.
