Sprinter VS E350/with 6.0 Powerstroke

I have read some post comparing Sprinter to the domestic vans, but never a direct comparison to E350/6.0 Powerstroke. Since I'm wannabe here what I found so far.

The sprinter has great gas mileage, but is short hp and torque. It's been Europe for almost ten years. The thing that bothers me about the sprinter is that it's engine/tranny is from the MB E series cars.

The 6.0 Powerstroke is designed by International from their medium duty engines. This engine had suffer a lot of reflashes when it was first release in the Ford Superduty trucks in 03. I'm wondering if Ford figure out the bugs out it.

Any other input would be great.

Thanks

A lot of owners swear by gas engines in cargo vans . I know too many owners of the new Powerstroke that have had too many problems . I think the Chevy Duramax may be a winner . Daimler-Chrysler is very reluctant to resolve problems . The Durango/Dakota ball joint problem is a prime example . They said a recall wasn't called for because the ball joints gave a warning before they failed . Yup , they went " clunk , clunk , clunk " and fell apart . Better park on the second clunk . They never should have used such small , sealed ball joints on an SUV in the first place .

I have a 6.0 in my 04 and i can't get better then 18-19 mpg, this is disturbing cause i have a 99 and 02 [7.3's] that average 19-22 mpg. There set up the same, ext with 3.55 rear ends and tires at 70 all around.I drive the 04 and have made an been driving alot slower and consistant trying to break 20 mpg,and can't do it.I would get a gas when i get another one,i had a 5.4 that had 300,000 that got the same mpg 14-16 as when it was new.I have a 03 GMC gas 6.0 and it can get 20 mpg in the right conditions, however it just got 100,000 on it and has had alot of front end trouble along with a couple coil packs going out.I will consider the Sprinter in the next couple years when the parts are more plentiful along with techs to service them. They move out well cause there light,a 2500 ext with nothing in it weights around 4700 pounds so the 160 hp engine moves it pretty well. The Fords and GM's are closer to 7000 pounds so they need those 250 hp engines to move them, diesels are torque friendly and this helps alot.

Can't get a duramax in a gm van :( The 6.0 Ford still has some issues. comes with a 100K warranty but downtime sucks. I have a 96 E350 with the 7.3 stroke and get roughly 20 MPG or a bit better out of it. Test drove a few 6.0's but as stated they are hard to find. Might be better off with a used 02 or 03 with the 7.3 in it.
