Sprinter 1 ton wheelwell intrusion solution?

I know the wheel wells intrude too much to allow a skid to pass between them. I believe most companies only require a van to load skids single height. What if a floor was built just above the wheel wells extending the 102 inches required for loads? With the extended height there would still be plenty of height for single skids as well as enough width that way. The area in front of the load section would still give stand up height for the sleeper area. That would also give an extra 1200 plus pounds load capability that could offset a genset and other driver comfort features.

geo told me if you have a 3500 sprinter van you can cut 4/5" on each
side of the wheel well have it reworked

most important is to have it done by a authoize dodge sprinter body
shop so it doesn't void the warrenty
there is a place in In that does it and harris truck and body in
newport news va is able to do it they do alot body work for
greengifford dodge

The Well conversion sounds safer to me as the dually has smaller wheels to lower the center of gravity, The single wheel has 16" wheels....putting a false floor would raise this and chance of tipping is increased.

I don't think using the 15's has anything to do with lowering the COG. I think six 15's are adequate from a load bearing standpoint while the 3/4 uses 16's for a little more load capacity. I do agree the false floor raises the COG several inches however I don't believe it imposes a major threat to tipping. Since loads would always be single skid high the COG is still going to be lower than some potential loads carried in an unmodified van. Another advantage to the false floor is storage underneath. I'm not familiar with the wheel well conversions however if it is feasible and gives the required width then it would be a good option also.
