PIERRE -- South Dakota legislators aren't likely to back the all-out ban on cellphone use by drivers recommended this week by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The state is one of seven nationwide with no laws prohibiting cellphone use such as texting or talking behind the wheel - and one state lawmaker says that isn't likely to change.
State Rep. Betty Olson (JuJu's sister)says that such a law would be redundant because it's already illegal to drive while distracted. Legislators earlier this year defeated a proposal to ban texting despite tearful testimony from family members whose loved ones had died in texting-related wrecks.
Olson says there's no way she would support an all-out cellphone ban because in some parts of rural South Dakota, a driver's cellphone can be "a life saver."
