"SOOT"

Hey Gang!
The other day I had an oil analysis and it showed the soot level was high, since then the oil and oil filter and both fuel filters have been changed, the air filter was changed about two months ago.

I had noticed that the exhaust smell was real strong and it kind of felt as though the engine was chugging at times but that was real faint and not all the time, I don't idle for long periods and even then I'll raise the rpms to keep the oil pressure up.

Since then I've been using a stronger ratio of Powerservice to help clean the injectors and the truck seems to be running alot smoother and the exhaust smell seems to have gone away!

Question is.........have I possibly corrected the problem?
and what are some causes for soot?

Thanks for any help you may offer!

Bad fuel, clogged filters, dirty injectors, lots of idileing in cold weather etc. How often do you change your oil? I use Howes Meaner Cleaner, seems to help out on soot and increases MPG.

RE:

Wow why didn't I think of that?, funny thing is that while at the house the grill is only about 10-15 ft. away from the front of the truck.

I'll give that a try! thanks DD!
