Shifting question

This is a silly question. I've only driven 5, 8 and 10 speed tractors, or rental straight trucks with 5 speed transmissions.

On an FL70 with a 6 speed, can you float the gears? Or, with such a small engine, is double-clutching unnecessary? I've been told it's the size of the flywheel that makes double-clutching necessary, and it's the flywheel that makes it possible for me to float. My trainer taught me to float my gears the first day with him, and that's how I like to shift.

Also, what is the pattern for a 6 speed, the same as a 4 with 2 more gears?

Thanks.

Most FL70's have an Eaton 6 speed synchro. It shifts just like a car manual, with a single clutching action. The gears are synchronized and fall right in unlike bigger trannies that need to be double-clutched or floated. And yes, the 6 speed can be float-shifted also without clutching. Shifts in regualr "H" pattern.
