Safety

Hi guys

I should be hitting the road in a couple of weeks and had a question regarding safety. How safe are the truck stops? Are there any precautions you guys take to protect yourselfs and your trucks, as well are there any truckstops or areas that should be avoided?

Thank in advance

Wow, thats a loaded question! I had a friend shot at the flying J in W. Memphis Ar. a few years back. These were his thoughts on truckstop safety. 1. Only park in lighted area's. 2. If you feel you are being followed get out in the open ASAP! He was shot while walking between trucks out in the party row. {the last row where all the Lot Lizards are}, you know what I'm talking about. 3. If the place looks like a dump, it probably is. When in doubt move to another stop. 4. If at all possible try to go for dinner, pie, coffee, whatever with another driver. Good luck and be safe.

Glen is right! If you don't feel safe, get out of there. You are usually pretty safe staying with the big name truck stops, but try to stay out of the back row. Park as close to the building as possible for 2 reasons 1- Shorter walk to bathrooms... and 2- Generally better lighting. And even in the best truckstop in the world the only reason your doors should ever be unlocked is when you are getting in or out of the truck. In general things are pretty safe out there, but don't stay in a situation where you are uncomfortable. -X
