Road Closure in St Louis MO

i 64 from the 55/70 Split to 255 is closed due to repaving and repairs, check with the MODOT if you need a route around,

transportation officials are warning commuters about a major road closure that begins at 9:00 Friday night.

Illinois Department of Transportation spokesman Jeff Church says the department realizes the nine-day closure of eastbound I-64 at the 55-70 split will be a major inconvenience.

“The detour that we’re going to have set up for this project is Interstate 55-70 northbound to Interstate 255 southbound back to Interstate 64,” he explained at a press conference Thursday.

I don't think they'll ever finish that interchange, nor ever be not doing construction on I-64. When I was doing courier work, (up until last month, when the career took an interesting turn) I had to go through that mess, plus the two construction zones on the St. Louis side of i-64 at least 4 times a day.

After they're done with the new bridge and all that, then they're going to move the "Poplar Street" bridge over one lane, yep slide the whole thing over sideways and start re-constructing the lanes to south I-55. And maybe one day figure out how to get pavement to stick to the steel deck of the bridge. Most likely they'll decide the bridge is "too old" and needs replacing. Never mind the Eads Bridge is over 100 years old.

And, then they'll start covering up the highway that goes north/south through downtown. Going to keep the construction crews busy for another 10 years or so.
