Rapid City ~ Buffalo Gap, S.D., Republican Ken Knuppe announced today his plans to serve South Dakota as its 32 nd Governor.

In a press conference held today, January 29, 2009, in the Rapid City, S.D., Civic Center, Knuppe officially announced his intentions to campaign for the Governor's seat, which will be decided upon by voters in 2010.

A lifelong resident of South Dakota, Knuppe gives several reasons for his decision to run for governor, including his concerns that South Dakota citizens have forgotten that they are the backbone of federal, state and local government. "Government isn't just a few people with titles, positions or offices. Government is the people who pay taxes, vote, offer solutions and seek answers," said Knuppe. "Our society has slowly gotten into a mindset that the people in office are the ones with power. This simply isn't true. The most powerful person in a democracy is the voter. I want to empower South Dakotans to take advantage of that."

In addition to reminding the public of the role of government and the role of the individual, Ken is a firm believer in strict adherence to our state constitution. The fundamental principles this state was founded on - justice, moderation, temperance and frugality are traits South Dakotans need to demand of their government leaders. Specifically, some of the key issues that Knuppe hopes to address are as follows:

* Keep government small, simple and accessible to all people
* Strengthen the economy
* Promote small business
* Enhance profitability in agriculture
* Improve insurance options for small businesses
* Capture and utilize various forms of energy
* Ensure property tax structure is fair and effective
* Improve education funding
