We stopped at a convenince store this afternoon in Hopkinsville, Ky when a portly old lady in a portly old Oldsmobile stopped her car, rolled down the window, peered at the Qualcom bubble atop our van and said "Are you'll storm chasers?" I replied "Yes we are and we're tracking a big one!"
She tore out of the lot and we laughed like we were possessed.

That's beautiful in its creativity, quick response, and borderline evilness. Good job!

For a while, I was a guard and on the side, I drove a pilot car once in a while. A friend of mine who did the same two jobs and I were talking to some guy and he asked what we did. We told him, and he somehow he got confused and thought we were armed escorts for valuable loads.

"You guys escort trucks, carrying weapons?"

We didn't realize he didn't understand, so we said, jokingly, "Yeah, sure."

He walked away thinking we were serious. It was only later that we figured out that he had the wrong impression.

Another time, when I was in a straight truck, I was looking for a road that wasn't where my directions said it would be. I stopped and asked a local, who I had seen eyeing my truck. I asked if he knew where such and such a road was, and he said, "Yep. But I ain't gonna tell you...unless you tell me what them outriggers is for on your truck."
