Saw your post about a dedicated parcel run (3200miles/week what kind of van to buy etc.) This is exactly what I want to do after I retire from my present job.(16 mos.) There will be a pension (sort of) house paid, kids gone, wife working, so I would like to get as much info as possible, concerning just about everything. (I take it that you are in the Pgh. Pa. area as I am). I see advertisements in the Sunday paper all the time for van o/o's for these routes. From what I have learned, you can gross 45-60K to the van with these companies. 1) In your experience/opinion is it worth getting your own authority to backhaul instead of always returning empty once the run is finished? 2) Is it worth subscribing to an online "load board" to at least make a few $ and not return empty? On these dedicated parcel routes, who provides the cargo/liability insurance? Also, have found 3 cos. in our area: Dynamex, Xpedx, and Prestige Delivery Svcs. 4) Any comments/knowldge/info of any of these? Thanks for your time and info, much appreciated.
