Here's an antenna and a couple of consoles currently available on Ebay. The antenna is said to be new and can be bought today for $165. Most likely the entire system, minus cabling, could be bought for no more than $300.

Leo: Have you ever contacted the fine folk's at Qualcomm to see if they sell individual units or have authorized re-sellers that will sell a single unit?

I'm with you, it is frustrating that the QC is soooo expensive through Panther and would love to be the proud owners of one in lieu of padding Panther's pockets.

The question would be if you could pay your own monthly fee and get the normal QC rate but still get your messages from your carrier, whoever that might be. If so, it might be worthwhile to get your own. The other thing is you wouldn't have the service warranty on it forever like when you have your carrier's unit. Still, the savings could be worth it.
