welcome back morninstar, have been wondering where you've been.
I think most any driver that has to run logs runs into that problem when they take a short "mini" as you call it.
I don't think dispatchers think of the problem of the driver and the dreaded 14 hr. clock. Their only interest is getting the load delivered.
From my experience, basically, if you take the "mini" your screwed for that whole day. Unless another "mini" pops up, but how often will that happen???
Before accepting that "mini", you have to run the scenario. What if the your stuck at the shippers? tick, tick, tick. Run into unforseen traffic problems? tick, tick, tick. Are held up at the consignee? tick, tick, tick. Then you said you'd return to where you were sitting before the 'mini', tick, tick, tick.
Then you have to wait for another load, tick, tick, tick. Before you realize it, your out of "ticks" and doing your 10 off again with only a "mini" for the day.
