Six opposition politicians have been taken to hospital after a brawl broke out in the Ukrainian parliament

After a fight involving fists and flying chairs, MPs from the pro-presidential Party of Regions forced opposition members out of the parliament hall.

Deputies from the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc party (BYuT) were protesting against the corruption case against their leader, former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

The opposition leader is accused of mishandling nearly £180m when she was in office, and is banned from leaving Kiev.

Several BYuT MPs decided to stay in the parliament chamber overnight to prevent parliamentary business the following day

Six politicians were injured in the fight and four of them remain in hospital, Ms Tymoshenko's office said.

It is believed one was admitted with a jaw injury, one with a heavily bruised hand, and three with concussion.

Fights are becoming common in the Ukrainian parliament, with this being the third of the year.

In April, the chamber's speaker had to be shielded by umbrellas as he was pelted with eggs while smoke bombs exploded and politicians brawled.
