Paid by the mile

Allstate Express says they pay by the mile. Is this better than getting a 60/40 split? Do you think they cover any other expenses like repairs?

if they are like most company and you are a o/o you bought your job and all the headaches and heart brakes that go with it
only time is if you get to be a company driver or drive for someone and they take care of all repairs etc

That would depend on what the per mile rate is to the truck. Most expedite companies pay by percentage. Because rates charged to different customers vary, the pay to the truck will also vary. If the customer gets a discount the O/O would also receive a lower than normal rate. If you can average $1.25 per loaded mile you'd be doing great. The real key to this business is to find the company that can get you the loads. I think it is safe to say that any company that pays a minimum of 1.20 pm and can keep you rolling with less than 20% deadhead miles is worth your consideration. Also remember, if you own the truck you must bare the cost of all expenses related to maintaining your vehicle. If you do not own the truck and drive for an owner you can expect to receive approx 60% of the truck revenue. The owner would maintain the truck and the driver would pay for his fuel and tolls in most cases. Good luck this is a great business.
