I have a friend that just bought an E450 with a V-10. It came with synthetic oil. He's wondering if he's stuck with synthetic or can he switch after his warranty is up. I told him I thought making a switch would be O.K., but that I would seek guidance from those more knowledgeable on such things. Discuss...

stick with syn, esp in the trans. the V10 has a habit of eating them

As general comments...

Synthetic = longer drain intervals

If he is not interested in long drain intervals he could go back to conventional.

Whatever he does... have him start doing oil analysis if he is not already. The numbers tell the story and provide advance warning of potential problems.
