Ohio CDL vision test

I live in Ohio and I'm hoping to get hired to drive a transit bus. The job i am trying for is a coach operator for TANK in Northern Ky. My question is what is involved in the vision test to get an Ohio CDL? My main concern is do they actually test for color blindness or do you just have to know the green. red, and amber of traffic signals and traffic signs. In order to drive the big transit bus you need a CDL. They also have smaller van type buses that don't require a CDL. I have been driving for 35 years with a clean driving record. Any help you can offer will help me decide to go for the CDL or just go for the smaller bus driving job. Thanks.

Couple of questions. Will you be trained for the CDL? Who will pay for the training? If the transit company is paying, go for it. If you go for the CDL, go for all the endorsements. Try to get air brakes, trailer, doubles, tanker, passenger, etc. That way you will have a license for anything that rolls. Can't tell you about the eyeball test. Good luck.

The Ohio CDL vision test consists of looking into a binocular device, and identifying the number that is embedded in a circle of dots, with the number being a contrasting color. I didn't really notice the colors used, but I'd bet they were chosen to identify color blindness. Still, what would you lose by taking the test, aside from a small bit of time, and a few bucks? You might be able to pass it.

Thanks thats what I was wondering. As far as what I have to lose. Since the company has openings for drivers that don't require a CDL I'm afraid if they find out I am colorblind they might not hire me at all. Thanks again for your help.
