This may be a question that, well, might be too simple... if a team signs on with a specific carrier (FedEx) can you also find your own loads on your down time or when loads arent keeping us busy enough? Dont know if this is a simple "NO" but Id rather ask than wonder... Thanks for not Laughing too Hard!!!

Only a few carriers allow that...Panther being one. As a team, I wouldn't concern myself with it too much. Enjoy the down time and let the office take care of the load planning.

Fedex will allow it through approved brokers.
I don't know anyone that has done it.
Not really worth the effort.
If your brother-in-law becomes shipping manager somewhere, there may be something to talk about.
This is expediting. There isn't a load everyday.
Fedex will keep you as busy, or busier, than the next guy. At least in straights.
I have, nor do I desire, any van experience.

On the no loads everyday.
Get out of the truck. Enjoy your days off.
If not under dispatch, be ready for anything.
Loads will come when you least expect it. Learn to nap.

..and this is why you want a carrier that has a good customer base - not just access to a load sharing board.

If the option to find a load via broker is the first benefit that a carrier tells you - buyer beware. IMHO.
