With all the border talk the last few days it seems like a good time to point out some changes to the truck border crossing at Blaine, WA/Vancouver, BC. Reconstruction of the crossing is now virtually complete and for those who have not been there since there are a few important points. Approaching the border at H street (2nd light after I-5 exit 275 is no longer trucks only in the right lane south of H street and right turns may now be made from the new right turn only lane and there is also a left turn only lane at H street.
North of H street there is a new truck only lane on the right for non FAST traffic, once you pass under the new D street overpass truck traffic diverts to the new truck spur and goes behind the duty free stores where it exits directly into Canada Customs. FAST traffic should remain in the RH car lane and use the left lane of the truck spur - the newly installed FAST booth is to the left of the two old booths which are unchanged. That said FAST booth times seem sporadic and unpredictable - non FAST traffic also frequently uses the left lane which is supposed to be for FAST approach so buyer beware. LOL North of H street the extreme left lane goes to the top of D street at which point turning right takes you to a new approach road which exits east of the truck spur to the PCB, FedEx and Livingston buildings - the other brokers in the old steel building are now on top of the hill south of the CBP facility. Turning left from the top of D street accesses Blaine city centre or the CBP access road where the new brokers building and Jones building can also be found (trucks not recommended up there) There is no truck access to the border from the top of D street.
Just north of the new D street overpass there is truck parking in nearly the same place as it was prior to construction but with more spaces and it is now angle parking where you can exit into the truck spur lanes. For those needing to visit CBP or a broker prior to entering Canada this is where you should park - DO NOT proceed to the CBP kiosk and attempt to use the old entrance to Canada Customs, all traffic attempting to use the old entrance are being TURNED BACK to the US to try again using the new truck spur.
Lastly new border cameras are now up and working which is nice so you know what lines might be before arriving.
