New truck

Well it's new truck time, my FL80 96" condo is about used up. Would anyone like to tell me how they like their Sterling Acterra 960 (Knoxville Freightliner "special"). Of course, also have to consider M2 96" condo. Any thoughts??

I have the Sterling and am very happy with it so far. I have just over 17k miles on mine and am averaging about 9.3 mpg overall. I have pushed it hard a couple of times and that hurt the overall. It runs well and pulls anything you would ever put in it. I considered other options in D units as well as a Sprinter. I am very pleased with this decision. Jon Mosier, the guy you'll work with if you go this route, is a stand up guy. They took good care of me and I appreciate that as well. Tell him Leo told you to work with him. Good luck to you.

Leo, thanks for your input. I have talked with Jon but have not ben able to drive one or even get in one. I have only seen the pictures on the internet. One concern is it not having a stand up cab-I can see many head bumpings before getting used to it.x(

I personally know of owners of each of your choices and there impressions were the same. One was thrilled with his Sterling and the other wishes he bought the others Sterling! Go figure, do your homework and test all your options thoroughly! This is a huge decision and shouldn't be taken lightly. If the Dealer won't let you test drive the Truck your interested in, find another dealer. There are plenty of dealers who want your business!

Glen, you are correct in saying there are varying opinions, good and bad about the same product. Our current Alumi-Bunk 96" Condo FL80 has been acceptible with minimal problems except for those related to age and mileage but as you know, there are people out there that have nothing good to say about A-B.

The Sterling Acterra won JD Powers intial quality award for midsize trucks, something held by the KW T300 for many years. Now regardless initial quality is only that, but definitely worth considering when shopping around.

I've bumped my head several times however it's well padded so it isn't too bad. I don't think there's a better choice, perhaps equally good but probably not better. I have seen about a dozen chassis at Bentz so there should be some more coming in to Knoxville soon.

Mike, You are more than welcome anytime here at the dealership to come drive, inspect, measure, ect.... Usually the deciding factor for most of my customers has been the ride and overall quality of the product. Please call me and I will be glad to give you a bunch of my customers to call and get their thoughts on the truck. They will be glad to share their experience with you. It was nice tallking to you this week but don't hesitate to call anytime!
