Hi everyone - I am fairly new to the trucking industry and totally new to this forum as the spouse of a Sprinter o/o. My part in this operation is to maintain the home front while my hardworking, hard driving partner makes the runs (and the income to our economy). We are lucky to have found a dedicated run which brings my man home every morning.
Enough of that - my concern, after reading all the posts, is this: The new law/rules, etc. to take effect in October 2005 seems to be very unsafe for our trucker friends as well as our other traveling friends on the roadways. Even though my man is a sprinter (which is a good thing from what I have been reading), we have spouses, partners, children (all loved ones) traveling the same roadways (in family vehicles) as all you dedicated hard working truckers. If you are being deprived of rest whether it be sleep time or just down time to refresh you for the next portion or haul, whether solo or team, how can anyone possibly believe that this HOS stuff is a good thing? Not only will it put all drivers in jeapardy, I foresee that it will be putting all road users in harms way.
I agree with each of your arguments/comments. I also believe that there is power and strength in numbers. How can those of us who aren't driving the big rigs join in to support your efforts and concerns? This directly affects each o/o, and it will have an adverse effect on each operator of any and all motor vehicle(s). (Our loved ones!)
As the mama (glue that holds this clan together)of my family, I want to step up and assist where and when I can.
I do hope this post is not offensive to anyone. I believe that this issue spreads to a larger support group which will help in getting your concerns noticed and hopefully on the road to rewarding resolve for all o/o.
