Hello I'm a woman thinking about getting a truck and running out of Atlanta.Have CDL with all endorsements and would like to know if Atlanta is a place to make money in this business.Have great credit so should I buy new or used. What kind of freight runs out Ga and to where. My husband has been a trucker for 25 years and has offered to help but knows nothing about expedited fright other then it looks like it getting crowded and cut throat out their. What companies should I be looking into and who unloads the truck.any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response!but who unloads the truck. Also I forgot to say I was a rural mail carrier that had to provide their on vehicle and maintenance and up keep. After all expensives I would like about 1400.00 a week does this sound about right.

Get it their but be SAFE

Hi

The consignee usually unloads the truck.About the only thing we do is secure the load, everything else is done by the shippers and the receivers.

Atlanta has freight. Most big cities do.

Cut throat-maybe very competitive-absolutely.

Good luck

Are you going to run team with with your husband,or run solo,if your going buy a truck,I am one that believes in new,but once in awhile, you can find a really good deal on used
Expedite is a tough business to get into,if your under the gun with payments, but will be much easier being a h/w team, either in a tt or straight truck.
Atlanta is usually a very busy express center, especially for teams, solo's might have trouble.
I love where I'm leased,so I can brag on them all day long, but what I suggest,is talk to all the companies, find out what their worst trucks are doing, and if you can make a living doing what the worst do,this is the company for you

my suggestion would be drive for a fleet owner for 6 months to a year before you buy a truck. it might just save you some heartache. you might love it and want to buy a truck or you might be in it a couple of months and think this isn't for me and want out. if you do go to work for a fleet owner get a contract, plus read past posts that will help with some info on different things as well.
