Good morning to all. I just wanted to know how the business is out there. I just bought a new cargo van and would like to jump in. Anyone have any advice or how to get started quick?

Well, my advice would have been to read back 1 year in the general, newbies and recruiter forums to learn about the business and companies before doing anything rash like buying a vehicle. That would also have covered the glut of vans and challenges facing them. Since you seem to have jumped off the board before checking the water I'd say do some speed reading and talk to any van operators you can find to talk to, either by PM on the forum or one to one at a truckstop near you.

I'd also talk to the recruiters at various companies and I'd post a message in the recruiter section of the forum asking who might possibly keep a van above the starvation level right now. We have several good recruiters who participate here and I believe will give you straighter answers than you'll get elsewhere. Good luck.

We just started with FedEx early January. We've had some down time with our new "used" truck and FedEx has been keeping us busy. Been out 5 weeks since our last hometime and out to west coast and back twice.
There was a 3 day down time in San Jose/Oakland, but with 75 degree weather, it wasn't bad, other than trying to find a place to stay out there.
We even missed most of the bad weather in the midwest, except for a trip to Ohio and then to Montreal. This is supposed to be the slow times too!
Our last run was from LA to Orlando and it was over last weekend. Had a turbo boost sensor go bad 400 miles from our delivery, but still made it on time. Sitting in a motel now for R&R while waiting for the Freightliner dealer to get the part. Should be fixed tomorrow and we will try to get back home in Ohio then.
Can't complain so far!
