Since we are talking about cooking meals, I have a question about microwave ovens. What are people using in their trucks? The slower 600 watt or a faster, and more expensive 1000 watt. Also, if you are running a microwave and a TV in the truck - what wattage microwave are you using and with what wattage inverter. I have been told that the inverter should be about twice the wattage of the microwave. Correct?

The inverter must be a higher wattage than the microwave for sure. I wouldn't even consider an inverter of less than 1000 watts if you are going to run a microwave. Statpower are just about the best, and I've seen them on sale dirt cheap lately. Cobra's new line of inverters are pretty beefy too. Do not waste your money on a cheapo- they will RUIN the stuff you plug into them. My father killed a brand new computer with a $40.00 Sam's club job. Ouch!

just wanted to share my past experience with inverters. cheap isn't always the best way to go. i fried two inverters last year. i then put a 3000 watt statpower in the truck. i run a small 110v fridge,650 watt micro,tv,dvd,and my laptop and never had any problems. i also run power tools off of it. if you opt for a cheap inverter. do your self a favor and run heavy gage power and ground wires. i can tell you from experience if you run mickey mouse wires and put a load on your inverter. it will burn the wires up and your inverter...
