Maximum Legal Length for a Straight Truck

Looking through some used truck adds the other day, I noticed one for a 10-wheel straight truck that listed the total length as 44 feet 10 inches. I thought the maximum length for a straight truck was 40 feet. Has this been increased to 45 feet?

Just looked at my rand mcnally book for commercial trucks and it shows different sizes for different states. Most are 40 feet but some show up to 60 feet. If you have a newer version of this book, check toward the front of the book and it will show restrictions by state for length, width, height and weight.

I think I know the truck you are referring to. That guy had been a driver for a long time. He had never once been measured and figured he could get away with driving a truck over 40'. If that is the guy, he passed away shortly after getting the truck. Sad.

I believe agricultural type vehicles can be up to 60 feet long, but most states are at 40 feet.A while back North Carolina was starting to enforce the 40 foot law but stopped for some reason.
