Looking for decent fleet owners

I am a long time Ltl driver(24 years) and partner is a Retail Field Manager (40 years). We are transitioning into Expediting. We want to drive for a Fleet Owner to learn the business. We are aware of a few Fleet Owners, but we want to talk to many to narrow our choices. We are aware of the main Expediters, but where are all the fleet owners and how do we contact them?

Be careful, cautious, slow to commit to anything. There are many bad fleet owners out there. Look at the equipment, the comfort options they provide, the mechanical condition. Is there a detailed maintenance record? Ask the company it is leased to about the owner as well. Ask about the deductions that the fleet owner may be taking from you? There are many fleet owners that make their money off of the driver in the form of ridiculous deductions and fees instead of making money off the load. The same can go fir the leased to company as well.

With a this being said, there are some great, honest fleet owners and companies out there. Be selective.
