Load pay

What are the benifits and minus to percent of load pay or cents per mile. I work for a carrier in the Dayton, OH area and they pay 60%. I see some others that pay a cents per mile (like .85). Which is better or does it all come out the same in the end. I am thinking of buying a used Sprinter, so I can haul more:)

Well do the math, If your company offers you a load paying 60% to go X Miles, figure out how much you are making per mile, then compare it to a flat mileage rate. Hypothetical,100 miles at 60% = $60.00,100 miles at .85 per mile = $85.

Companies usually get van loads at around $1.50/mi. Sometimes up to $1.75. Even then, this is only coming close to the flat .85/mi rate. If it were closer to 70%, I'd say that's more reasonable.
