Last Settlement Checks

I am fairly new to expediting and had been working for a company for the past 10 months. I have since quit them for another company. My problem is they have seemed to stiff me on my last settlement checks. Is this common?

The Carrier you were leased to has 45 days to give you your final settlement. Period. It's the law and they know it. Have you had any outstanding cargo claims, fuel taxes due, or any other items that could come back to haunt you? The law is on your side, except with these outstanding charges described above. After the 45 day period start calling them, if no response get a lawyer. He should be able to get his fees from the deadbeat carrier. Is the amount large enough to contact your district attorney? I know we've had settlement checks over 5000.00 dollars. It's your monego fight for it. Good luck and keep us posted how you do on your collection?

If you have went past the 45 days as Glen mentioned, consider calling OOIDA or go to their web site. www.ooida.com
They are very versed in dealing with lease violations and will forward you to the right attorney in your area.

DaveKC is correct about OOIDA. I had reason to stop in at their headquarters in Missouri just the other day, to visit with someone there about a dispute my wife and I are having with another party that will remain unnamed here. I learned a lot about trucking disputes I did not know. I was not only pleased, but also surprised by OOIDA's eagerness to help and the efforts they were willing to make on our behalf. Of course you should be an OOIDA member before you seek their help.

A Team is right, I do believe you must be a member. I think it is like $45.00 a year and there are discounts to get it cheaper than that. Money well spent in my opinion.
