In my truck when the passenger seat is all the way forward there's only about a 4" gap to the dash. I just put the laptop in the seat and let it ride. Even if I ever had to do an end of the world panic stop it couldn't do more than slide forward a few inches. So far it's ridden fine and only moves a little from the bouncing on the poorly maintained roadways. There's a company that makes a fancy (expensive) articulated arm and platform system for laptop securement. I don't remember their name but I'm sure a websearch would turn it up. If I ever get a co-driver I'll have to get one of those but for now this works fine. Good luck.
