We will most likely have to lay-over in the L.A. area this weekend. Only been there one other time, just a quick in and out. Could some of you West Coasters give me an idea of good lay-over options? Oh, and the wife want's to know if there is a good place to get close to the beach if we spend the whole weekend in L.A.(D truck)
Thank's folk's!

I am not a west coaster but if you are willing to drive south on I5 to exit 51,which is the town of Oceanside. There is a state park on the beach there.

However 10 more miles down I 5 to exit 41 will take to to the town of Encintas. Get off the Interstate, head west, cross over Hwy1 and there is a parking area on the left right above the beach. You can then walk down if you want to. Lots of restaurants and deli's in walking distance.

Encintas is a pleasant town. We spent a October weekend there and there was a Octoberfest Festival going on. We left the truck at a motel and took a municipal bus to the town(east of I5).You can imagine what goes on at German Octoberfests so it was necessary to go out of service for that day.:p :p

If your in L.A, just take I-10 to the end (about 10 - 15 mins. from Downtown). Santa Monica Beach, lots of public parking.

RichM is correct on Oceanside. The park is San Clemente State Park. They are expediter friendly. Read my post "Nuclear Vaction" posted a while back in this section. You can camp there in your truck. Power, water and sewer hookups are availible at the campsite. They have showers, restrooms and a store on site. Generators can be run between 08:00 - 22:00 hrs. You will be right above the beach and walkways are provided to get down to the beach. There is a pizza place right across I-5 that delivers right to your campsite. Ummmm Good!!!

Do yourselves a favor as we did and treat yourself to this mini-vacation, you wont regret it! Also, you may want to call ahead to reserve a space. Let us know how you like it if you end up going.:)

All the way into L.A. I was making plans for a very nice weekend lay-over. The places you all described sounded sooooo good.
We got unloaded about noon and by 3pm. were reloading to head East. It just paid too good to say "no". Hate to say it but we were a little disappointed to get loaded again so soon.
Sure do appeciate the input. We will definatly file the info under "must do".
Thank's again!
