A killer who escaped from an Arizona prison was so scared of life on the run in Yellowstone National Park that he planned to let bears eat him on a mountain to end his fear and panic.
Tracy Province told police after he was recaptured that he was preparing to dose himself with heroin and “be bear meat” when he experienced “divine intervention” and decided to hitchhike home to Indiana instead.
Yellowstone spokesman Al Nash said Province’s plan would probably have worked. “We have a fair number of bears in the ecosystem,” Nash said. “They eat about anything.”
