From Cnbc.com Kansas prepares for Gold Rush style Oil boom. Land leases going for $30 an acre a few years ago are now going for $3,000 an acre in hot drilling spots. Sandridge Energy has 21 drilling rigs in Kansas now and plans to have 45 rigs to drill 675 wells. There is talk of planning for so called man camps for the influx of oil field workers expected. Shell Oil and Chesapeake Energy and other companies have also begun moving into Kansas.

hope it turns out to be better then the mess in North Dakota.

I'm guessing it will. Lots of people will move to Kansas that wouldn't move to North Dakota. Cost of living should still be low, and hopefully they'll learn from what they've seen in North Dakota. Second guy benefits from the first guy's mistakes.
