Hoping to learn from insight and experience within this forum community. I am a reporter with the Globe and Mail and I've been talking to several international students about training/working conditions/pay in the trucking industry, particularly in BC. I am working on a possible story about lack of training/experience for these newcomers and how that affects safety and working conditions on the road for other truckers and of course the public. I'm also hearing about how some buy LMIAs from trucking companies just to stay in Canada and/or drive truck just to get their permanent residency approvals. I could really use help from experienced truckers - to learn what the reality is within the industry and on the road. If you are willing to help, please pass on insight, info and/or suggestions on who I should talk to and where I should look to get this right. Many thanks for allowing me to post here.
