Innitial thoughts on my new Sprinter

I def. like the gas milage. I have a 2005 158wb Sprinter. The gas milage is coming in at just a touch under 23MPG. The van takes some getting used to, but that's to be expected for any vehicle. It's got real tight turning, good pep & rides fairly smooth. I like that I can stand up & not have to lean over when I walk back into the cargo area. The rear window defog is a nice lil feature.

It also has a feature that after you shut off your engine, you can still run the heater for about 15 minutes. To get to the gas cap, the driver side door must be open. This should help prevent gas theft.

Now if only the seat was a bit more comfy. If they have em, my next purchase will be a more comfortbale seat.

Another thing I wish was a lil more efficient, & this is NOT much, but the radio stations are a little bit of a reach. The scan up/down is w/in reach, but to get to the pre-programmed stations I have to lean a lil bit. I wish the radio station buttons were about 6 inches to the left.

I took Geo's advice & put rollers in the back. The forklift drivers all love it. One thing though, if your van is on a downhill slope make sure you're not standing in FRONT of the frieght when they load. I didn't even think about that & was fortunate it was only a 250 pound skid they put in there. I was in the van like I often was in my old van (plywood floor rather than rollers) when they loaded me up. They put the skid on & the thing started rolling towards me. I stopped it, but had it been a 2000 pound skid instead I could have been in some trouble. Lesson learned: to put a stop in there & then adjust it myself.

Those are some innitial thoughts.

My experience with my new Sprinter has been about the same as yours but I find the seat quite comfortable. I think it's made more for the old wide butt types like me. It did take a while to adjust it just right. My only complaint so far, is the steering wheel is not adjustable and seems to be at an odd angle.

I also have a Sprinter, and agree with the things you said.
Where did you get rollers? How much $$$?
Thanks-

The rollers I got at Grainger. They cost about $800. I've had freight where they came in handy, like a big 48X120X40 crate that wasn't on a skid. Other times though, they're a pain in the rump. Securing things that aren't very tall (that don't come up to my etracks) can be a pain. I'd say having the rollers so far has been a wash.

As for the Sprinter itself, other than the gas milage I'm liking it less & less. The dome light switch just shattered on me. I didn't do anything other than turn it on/off like usual & all of a sudden "POP!!" it went.

The seats.. yeesh!! Fred Flintstone has a more comfortable vehicle than I do. I don't have to drive for very long until my back tightens up, my leg, shoulders, etc. I was thinkin it might be me at first, but everytime I get out & walk around things seem to be ok again. I just bought one of those massage/heat units for the seat & it seems to help some. I just got back from the store & haven't rode in it for 2 miles though, so the jury is still out on this thing. If this doesn't work I'll end up forking up the money for a new seat. I'm not gonna keep driving a vehicle that's this uncomfortable.

Those are some more thoughts. Be well everyone.

Does your Sprinter have what they call the comfort seating group? I've talked to a couple of people who were uncomfortable and neither had it. I've talked to a few with it and none disliked the seats. I don't have first hand knowledge but it must be a pretty good upgrade. I don't know why they don't make it standard equipment and adjust accordingly.

I have the comfort-seating group, and let me say it is not much help.

I purchased an Air Hawk and what a difference that makes! Mine cost $59.99 and well worth it.

I have been sitting on Air Hawks in a FL 70 for many years and they are worth every penny.

I bought what's called a Complete Seat Cushion at Meijers for $30. The company that makes it is called Sure Comfort. This thing has a massage/heat unit in it, though the heat doesn't seem to work very well, but I don't so much care. The massage is awesome & definately helps.

The downside, & this isnt much, is the thing isn't comfy to sit in when the unit isn't running. I like massages but don't want a 6 hour one while I'm driving. Taking it off the drivers seat & putting it on the passenger seat takes about 10 seconds. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

Good luck,
Danny
