immigration

Hi all,
I have been looking at expediting as a career recently and have been watching these forums for a while. My only problem is that i live in the UK where expediting simply doesn't exist. living in the US has always been a dream of mine and since life in the UK just plain sucks I started to think about perminatly moving over. The US immigration laws are tight and they allow only people who fall into certain catagorys to reside in America. The main catagorys are 1, You have a relitive who is a US citizen, I dont so that rules that out. 2, If a company needs a person with the specific skills that are not widely common in the US then a person who DOES have these skills can obtain an immigrant visa through the sponsership of a company that needs the skills of that person. I have no skills relating to expediting that isnt widely avalible in the US so that kinda leaves me out on that one to. The third and final way of obtaining a visa is through the "green card lottery" for which people from the UK are not eligable. This is a slight hitch in my plans to become an O/O in the US. So far the only route into expediting is if i go to Canada and start a buisness which will get me a Canadian visa (Driving a straight truck as an expediter Could Count as owning my own buisness I think) Although its the US I want to work in. If anyone knows of any other ways to get into expediting other than though Canada then advice would be greatly appreciated as im sure you guys (and gals) know much better than I do about working in the US.

Thanks in advance,
Littlelerch.

I think you should not get too excited over the possibilites of expediting in North America.
You should check into the possibilities of expediting to and from UK and the Continent.
I would be highly dubious if anyone told you that buying a straight truck would be the way to get into Canada on an entreprenure (sp) visa.
DHL and FedEx are both over there in a big way.
Could you not work work for one of them?
They likely run hot straight truck loads.
Sorry; this isn't the reply you are looking for.
Best of luck to you.

Back when I worked in the corporate World I was a VP for a French Companies operations in the USA. I needed to hire an engineer who could speak Dutch,French and English. I located a man who lived in Brussels Beligum and hired him. Getting his Green card cost over $3000. US and the biggest obstacle was having to prove that an American could not be found who had the qualifications needed. I had to run advertisements in major newspapers (The NY Times) and prove to immigration that I had no candidates that were fluent in the 3 languages.
Unfortunately for you there are many individuals in the US and Canada that can and do expediting.
As Rob said, look within Europe,Fedex CC has a European operation based ourt of Bruseel Beligum. You can probaly check and apply to them over the internet.Several years ago we had a forum member from the London UK area who ran expedite loads for several companies includung FDX.Perhaps someone may remember his name and post it.
Good luck and keep us posted on what is going on and can I ask,Why does England suck? LOL

first of all I would like to say thankyou to both of you, I've gotten a much better responce to my quierys here than on the US immigration website. I didn't know FedEx cc had operations in europe so ill certainly be looking into that. RichM, the reasons England sucks are in there thousands and range from the colour of the sea to having the worst healthcare in europe. Once again thanks to both of you, Littlelerch.
