The company I have been with for 22 years just sold out to our Mexican compeditors, and my big red Western Star is headed South:'( I am not ready to give up the road alltogeher - eventho I am near retirement age. I have been looking at the Freightliner Sprinter and have gotten info from a couple of express companies, but still don't really know anything about the business. It's alot of money to sink into something not knowing anything about it. I REALLY need some help! I'm not looking to make LOTS of money - I've spent enough years trying to do that. I'd really like to drive 4 or 5 days most weeks and be home 2 or 3. Can some of you more knowledgeable drivers help me out here. ANY advise would be welcomed.

Thanks,

VLC, I am a newbie myself and can't give you any info on the business as such, but I have read a lot of these posts recently. I would advise you to search some of the old posts and the archives for threads on the Sprinter. I have seen many of the threads, some of them talked favorably of the Sprinter, but some didn't. Never hurts to be informed.

I might not be able to help much but from what I have read here in the past is, Look in the classifieds and try driving for a owner of a small fleet( that way if it does not suit your hometime you wont be out the money for the van). Most of the good guys to ask weave teceal whiterabbit geo have all posted about the same message in the past, You should be willing to stay out for about 3 weeks to be able to make a good living. I am not sure that this is a bussiness to be in if you need a lot of hometime. Those guys will tell you to maybe find a small package delivery company in your major city.

Best of luck
sorry to hear about your company.
